skipjack fishing - boats in harbour
ISSUES

Stock of skipjack tuna are generally regarded as fine in all oceans - Pacific, Indian and Atlantic. However the principal method of fishing skipjack is with FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices), and this is a very destructive method in terms of by-catch of other tuna types and other marine species. The next sustainability issue is "resource theft" and illegal fishing, with the two often inter-linked. Most skipjack fishing is not done by local boats in their own waters but by long distance foreign fleets under unfair contracts which rob local communities of the resource. We refuse both FAD's and long-distance foreign fleets, avoid illegal fishing and resource theft.
