The best canned tuna in the UK!

This is the large Fish4ever boat...

And this is the small one from a local village which also supplies our tuna.
Fish4Ever scores 86%!

Audited by Greenpeace in July 2010, Fish4Ever scored a massive 86% - that’s eight times better than John West!

Fish4Ever also topped the Ethical Consumer Best Buy Guide which featured all UK own label and supermarket brands.  This latter guide is compiled by the ECRA, the UK’s foremost independent ethical audit organisation which ranks companies against a comprehensive list of consumer concerns.   In this ranking we scored three times better than both Sainsbury’s and M&S, both of whom have done excellent work in sustainable fishing.

Fish4Ever tuna is never stacked too high or kept too long in the holds.

Greenpeace 2011

On Monday January 10th,  Greenpeace UK revisits the performance of the two big brands and supermarkets in the UK.   This is a campaign tool to stir up the market and invite consumers to boycott brands that have made no effort to improve their act.  Fish4Ever applauds and supports the aims of improving sustainability decisions at every level of the supply chain - but this cannot work without parallel support from consumers.  Everyone buys canned tuna.  Tuna sandwiches are one of the top 3 flavours in the UK – and the UK is one of the largest canned tuna consumers in the world!   If the UK supports sustainability it will be a massive boost to good fishermen and better management globally.  This is one product where we can all make a difference.

Fish4Ever Best Practice Recommendations

We issued our best practise recommendations to coincide with the launch of the film “The End of the Line” by Charles Clover.
  • Look carefully at equipment and gear
  • Avoid tuna caught in breeding areas of both target and by-catch fish.
  • Encourage local artisan fisheries, especially pole and line boats.
  • Companies should avoid illegal fishing and likely illegal fishing
  • Tuna should never be sold as a KVI or Key Value Item.
  • Stop using the term dolphin-friendly to sell tuna.
  • Say where and how all fish is caught.
  • Use the name of the specific species of tuna - and not the generic term tuna.
  • Support and fund NGO’s and sustainability initiatives.
