Healthy eating must include fish!

“Healthy Ageing” published by the British Nutrition Foundation (13 January 2009) fully supports the consumption of canned fish - but how can you make the most of it?

The report which came out this month supports many others which already point out the health qualities of canned fish. But sometimes it can be difficult to fit into your diet. Here are some suggestions for simple meals to make with our fish. Check out the Health and Recipe sections for more information and ideas.

You get home late and can’t be bothered with cooking – try mackerel in marinade or oil with cold new potatoes and salad, or sardines on toast.

You want something tasty and quick, try mackerel or tuna with spaghetti so  easy to make. Just gently fry onions, garlic and chilli in olive oil, add the flaked mackerel to warm through and then mix into a bowl of cooked spaghetti – delicious.

You fancy a spicy take-away? No money but canned fish, canned tomatoes, a few potatoes and some chilli in the cupboard?  Try spicy sardine or mackerel fishcakes or tuna in a spicy tomato sauce with rice. No waste, always ready to use and so very good for you!

Of course the best canned fish comes from us, the ethical and sustainable canned fish company Fish4Ever. Each tin contains firm fillets of fish with a delicious taste. And if you aren’t keen on cooking there are varieties which can be eaten straight from the can such as peppered mackerel or smoked kippers.
