Kerrie Fergusonfrom the original Loch Fyne Oysters Restaurant and Shop in Cairndow These Fish4Ever tuna products were tasted by a team of shop staff who regularly sample many of the products that we sell. These are quality products, which continue to be a popular choice with our customers as they are a healthy convenience food that is incredibly versatile. We especially liked the Skipjack tuna in brine, which is really good value and an ethical store cupboard essential. The fair fish initiative is in line with our own values and it is great to be able to support a new initiative such as this. We also feel that the minimal packaging on the Skipjack is a welcome advancement in moving towards reducing environmental impact. The choice between oil and brine in the other tunas is purely down to personal preference, although our favourite was the yellow fin tuna in organic sunflower oil. Obviously, the yellow fin in brine has a slightly saltier flavour than the yellowfin in oil and we felt that the slightly nutty flavour of the oil compliments the taste of the tuna itself and would make an ideal base for a salad dressing. On the other hand, we felt the delicate flavour of the Albacore (white tuna) in organic sunflower oil is slightly over powered by the nutty flavours of the oil but improved when the oil is drained off. The fact that the entire range is in ring pull cans makes the tuna highly convenient and a great idea for picnics. All the products can be used to make healthy summer salads, or more filling pasta bakes. Finally, the informative packaging, which includes the Marine Connection logo, helps consumers to buy with confidence. Importantly, the range is not ust dolphin friendly but turtle, seabird and shark friendly and has strong criteria caring for protecting the wider eco system |
